All Barbour Tartans originate from the same 'sett', - that is sharing the same
pattern and weight of lines - and have been confirmed by experts Kinloch
Anderson based in Edinburgh. In historical precedent Barbour changed the
linings according to requirements and in 2004 introduced several new
sophisticated tartans for specific needs. Barbour are also upgrading their wax
cotton range to a zip-in liner system alongside new tartans designed within the
Barbour sett. In broad terms Navy garments have a Dress Tartan lining, Sage
have Ancient Tartan, Black have Modern Tartan and Rustic garments have Muted
Tartan linings
