Neither one nor the other....
This item is probably the most frustrating Barbour in my collection, for 2 reasons:
1. The blurb says buy the same size as your coat. I did this, as (having had the sleeves extended) my coat is a perfect fit. However (and the photos in the shop window show the issue perfectly) the liner is far too tight to be worn as a single garment. I can live with this, as I didn’t buy it to wear this way, but only as a zip-in, to replace a home-made arrangement. However,
2. The liner is not held securely in place by the zips and the central popper, so it moves away from the jacket when removed, and it’s a nightmare to put on again. I’m going to add a couple of poppers to each armhole to try to keep the liner in place, but frankly, this is something that should have been thought about, or at least noticed, in pre-release trials.
I’ve considered returning this liner, as it’s not 100% fit for either purpose, but I’ve decided not to as, once it’s on, it’s unobtrusive, and warm. It could do with an inner pocket, as it makes the one in the jacket redundant, but that’s a small gripe compared to my other comments.
So, if you want a liner, be aware of the limitations, and if you want a lightweight gilet, buy at least a size larger, but don’t buy this item expecting it to do both....

Comfortable and warm!
I bought this to zip into a Bedale wax jacket. I bought it in size large (42") which fits well both as a liner and to wear as a separate garment. The pockets are huge. It is comfortable and matches the wax jacket interior. It adds warmth to the jacket but is also a smart gilet on its own.

I have a XL Ashby mens wax jacket. What size would I need and does this fit the Ashby
Thank you for your question and interest in our products.
We can confirm that Barbour themselves suggest ordering a size UK 46 zip-in-liner to fit inside an XL Barbour Waxed Jacket. However, please note that depending on the build of the individual it is possible to fall in between sizes for this item. If this is the case, please note that we do offer a 28 day returns/exchange service.

What size liner would you recommend to fit a men's ashby jacket size medium. I am searching for a liner in navy blue.
If you want to wear the liner as a gilet aswell, then I would go one size up on jacket size

I have the Ashby in a large, black. Which size should I go for? And, I’m guessing most people buy the same colour liner as the jacket? Thanks
Thanks for your question and interest in our products. We can confirm the size 40 liner would be suitable for a large Ashby Wax Jacket, we would also recommend selecting the same colour as your jacket.

I’m looking for a quilted liner for my navy Bedale jacket please could you advice me on which one to get have seen one on this website that has the same check lining as the lining in my jacket . Thankyou alyson
I’m not sure I can answer your question directly, but I can give you some pointers. Barbour recommend their A855/A856 for the Bedale, but of Town & Country don’t quote these numbers... Maybe you can find them on the Barbour website or ask Customer Services?
Anyway, I bought the quilted waistcoat for my Border (long) jacket, but I wouldn’t heartily recommend it as it’s not brilliantly warm, and it only fixes into the jacket by the zip, so it’s a pain to put on and off. I wear it as a second layer, but don’t zip it in, and so any other brand will also allow this. If you want to zip in, I’d suggest trying a fleece or a baffle waistcoat, as these will be warmer. They don’t have the tartan liner, but this wouldn’t worry me.
Of course, another downside of waistcoats is that they don’t cover your arms. I sometimes find that, even if my body is warm, my arms get cold, so (and Barbour won’t thank me for this) I tend to use a thin, North Face baffle liner, which is very thin but very warm.
Hope this helps...

Hi, it is compatible this liner for the Ashby Barbour jacket, with size I should buy for an XL jacket? Thanks!
I would look on the Barbour site to see whether the liner is compatible. I have a 44 Bedale and the liner is a 42, and can be worn by itself or can be zipped into the jacket as a liner. The lining of the liner is the same colour as the jacket lining so works well. Hope that helps.
