A History of Schöffel Country

30/04/2020

The now very well-known Oakham and Lyndon gilets are probably what brought the Schöffel brand to your attention. However, across the world, particularly in ski resorts, Schöffel is favoured above all other brands simply because when it comes down to protecting us from the elements, it can’t be beaten. The original Schöffel brand was founded in 1804 in Bavaria, Germany, and has over the past seven generations prospered by combining innovation and technology with a passion for superb styling and outstanding quality. It is still run by the family today, by Peter Schöffel, the 7th generation.

The Schöffel Country that you know today was founded by Corry Cavell-Taylor with the support and experience of father and son Hubert and Peter Schöffel in 1993. It was the Ptarmigan shooting coat that launched the brand and essentially, put it on the map. It was a group effort of some of the most influential shooting retailers at the time; Asprey’s of New Bond Street, James Purdey & Sons, Farlow’s of Pall Mall and Roxton’s of Hungerford. What this group of extraordinarily passionate people created was the ultimate shooting coat.

Over the past 27 years, the Ptarmigan shooting coat has been refined and improved and the various styles are now highly regarded in the marketplace. Schöffel produces its definitive super-lightweight shooting coats using the latest technology from Gore-Tex®, Cordura® and Meryl®. Also, in the Ptarmigan range are the exceptionally good looking, lightweight and washable Gore-Tex® tweed shooting coats with matching waistcoats, breeks and caps for both men and ladies.

As a specialist brand Schöffel Country focuses on the latest fabrics and techniques to produce superb clothing which is lightweight, technical, comfortable and specifically designed with the discerning country customer in mind.

The Schöffel Country range has been carefully expanded to include several styles in coats, jackets and fleeces of the finest quality in classic, attractive colours. The women’s range is designed to suit the female form by using innovative styling and design, but still retaining the essential features and sporty cut. Every style in the range has been designed and manufactured to the high standard our customers have come to expect from Schöffel Country.

The Spring Summer 2020 range sees a bit more colour and exploration for both the men and the ladies. Here are our top picks from the new season:
