Barbour Dog Accessories: A Buyers Guide

08/04/2016

headerTreat your four-legged friend to some top-notch Barbour dog treats

Whether you’re a veteran dog lover or you’re thinking of finding your first pooch, it can still be a bit of a minefield when looking for dog coats, leads and beds to suit your newest family member. Barbour has a wide selection of pet accessories so you can get man’s best friend kitted out from head to tail.

Barbour Dog Coats

Many dogs, especially smaller breeds or those with shorter hair, are not built to withstand the colder climates that we experience here in the UK, so just in the same way we reach for our trusty Barbour when leaving the house, we recommend getting a little cover up for your furry friends. Your first step should be to research the breed and needs of your dog, if you’re a Husky dog owner for example, then chances are you can give a dog coat a miss because they are genetically designed to put up with the cold. A smaller dog such as a Chihuahua, or a short haired Greyhound breed on the other hand will certainly benefit from a little more insulation!

Barbour dog coats come in a variety of different fabrics in order to suit your dog’s individual requirements, and there are a range of sizes and fits to ensure they’re always comfortable when out and about. But how are you to know which is best? We’ve put together a handy table for you below to consult- simply measure from neck to tail, around the middle, and from their neck to cheek (if you’re buying a coat with a collar) to find the right fit. Of course, as all dogs are different, this table should be used as an approximate measurement, but all of the Barbour dog coats are manufactured with a 1-2cm tolerance so you needn’t worry about ease of movement.

Product Size XS (Toy dog) S (Terrier) M (Spaniel) L (Retriever) XL (Pointer) XXL (Great Dane)
Neck to Tail (cm) 25 35.2 45.4 55.6 65.8 76
Mid Width (cm) 23.7 29.7 37.7 46.5 55.3 64.1
Tab to cheek Length (cm) 31.2 44 56.8 69.6 82.4 95.2
Strap Length (cm) 20.4 26.4 34.4 43.2 52 60.8

We found that best thing about the Barbour dog coats is how easy they are to put on your pooch. With a simple Velcro neck strap and buckle around the middle, there shouldn’t be any struggles before you go out on your walk. But the dog coats aren’t just for wear out of the house. If you find yourself layering up inside your own home over the winter, then you may find that your dog may need an extra layer too, so don’t be afraid to let them wear their coat inside the house. Our favourite of the collection is the Barbour Waxed Cotton Dog Coat– the waxed cotton construction means there is a level of water resistance should you get caught in the rain, while the cord collar can be turned up to protect delicate ears. When it comes to keeping it clean, please note you CANNOT put the waxed dog coats into the washing machine! After every walk, air the jackets out to remove any unwanted odour.

Other Barbour Dog Accessories

When it comes to collars, it doesn’t get more traditional than a classic tartan finish– the flexible leather will be comfortable for you and your four-legged friend and will look fantastic with a Barbour dog coat! If you like to take your pets away with you for weekends away, make sure they’re kept cosy (and your car is kept clean!) with a Barbour dog blanket. With tartan cotton on one side, and sherpa fleece on the reverse, this Barbour blanket is great for wrapping new puppies up to bring them to their new home! Like their coats, the Barbour dog beds are available in a range of sizes for extra comfort and ease of movement. For larger dogs, we recommend the dog duvet, whereas the smaller or shorter haired dogs will love the rounded dog beds to curl up in when there’s a chill in the air.
