“Invest in your shoes and invest in your sheets because if you aren’t in one you’re in the other!”
If you’re looking to purchase or replace your current country boots, you’ve probably come across Dubarry boots. From the outside, some items seem simple, and so similar to less expensive counterparts that it makes many of us wonder why we should pay more. But as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for, and sometimes a little investment goes a long way.
So what makes Dubarry boots so special? And are Dubarry boots worth the money? Here’s ten reasons why you should invest…
1. They’re handmade in Portugal
All Dubarry boots are cut and closed in Portugal to ensure that every boot is made to the same exceptional quality. Shoe making is one of Portugal’s oldest industries, and the master boot makers who craft every Dubarry boot have extensive experience in creating high quality boots.
2. GORE-TEX technology
For those unfamiliar, GORE-TEX is a four layer waterproof and breathable system. The first layer (closest to the inside of your boot) wicks away internal moisture from your feet to ensure they are warm and dry. The second layer traps air to retain heat, while the third and most important layer is the waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane. This membrane is unique in the sense that perspiration can penetrate it to wick moisture away from the inside of the boot, but water cannot penetrate the membrane, meaning you are always kept dry. The final layer is a textile protective layer which prevents any damage to the lower layers. When paired with a simple pair of woollen socks, this membrane will guarantee warm, dry feet even on exceptionally cold, wet days.
3. High Quality Leathers
Crated from Full Grain Leather, these boots have a rugged texture for added durability – you can read more about the different types of leather in our Leather Buying and Care Guide.
4. Injection moulded soles
An injection moulded sole is a sole unit that uses no glue to connect the layers together, rather is pressed as one piece to ensure a robust tread and fantastic support. This means a deep tread for effective mud release and grip of trickier terrains. Not all Dubarry boots feature this kind of sole unit, for more formal styles, a leather and rubber mix is used which offers a lighter base and suppleness needed for smoother surfaces.
5. 12 month guarantee
Yes, you read that right, every Dubarry boot is backed by a 12-month guarantee: “In the most unlikely event that a Dubarry product does not match up to our standards we will take corrective action. If, within twelve months of purchase, there are any defects in your product then please return it, along with proof of purchase, to the outlet/vendor from where you purchased. It will be promptly returned to us for repair. In the event of it not being repairable then we will replace it.” It’s always nice to have a little peace of mind when making a large purchase, so this warranty ticks all of the boxes. Of course, improper care is not covered, but that’s OK because Dubarry boots are…
6. …easily cleaned and cared for!
Dubarry want your boots to last, simple as that. There’s no better advert than a pair of boots that are still going strong year after purchase, so they are sure to supply customers with everything from boot trees to reduce wrinkling to leather creams to encourage flexibility in the leather. If you are going to be wearing Dubarry boots for yard or agricultural work, then be sure to drench them in tap water after contact with manure or ammonia based substances to prolong the life of the leather. After this, you can use the Dubarry Footwear Cleaner and Dubarry Leather Cream to keep your boots looking in great shape. You can read more about caring for your Dubarrys in their Leather Care Guide.
7. Perfect for city or country
As mentioned, some Dubarry boots are more suited for town than country (though that GORE-TEX Membrane comes in handy for when you’re caught out!). The Cork boots, for example are great for everyday wear, yet will still look gorgeous with your favourite country outfit. For a tall boot, we love the Glanmire boots with their laced back for a fashionable touch.
8. Wide and slim leg styles
Country boots that are suitable for all calf widths?! We never thought we’d see the day. Yet here Dubarry have some great options for wide and slim calves, plus adjustable options which are great for wearing with skirts or trousers. We have two blogs detailing boots for wide calves as well as our favourite boots for slim legs, so be sure to check that out!
9. Exceptional fine details
From the pull tab that is fixed all the way down to the sole, to the gusset at the tongue which ensures waterproofing – Dubarry think of everything. It’s these fine details that make Dubarry stand out from the crowd and make them worth every penny.
10. They are built to last!
Search any forum, ask any owner, and read any review – Dubarry boots will last for years with proper care. They even offer a repair and resoling service, which means they really are the boots that keep on giving…or walking!
