“You are either in your bed or in your shoes, so it pays to invest in both” – John Wildsmith
Ten reasons to invest in Dubarry boots
If you’re looking to purchase or replace your current country footwear, you’ve probably come across Dubarry boots. From the outside, some items seem so similar to less expensive counterparts that it makes many of us wonder why we should pay more. But as the old adage goes – you get what you pay for! Sometimes a little investment goes a long way.
So what makes Dubarry boots so special? And are they worth they money? Here are 10 reasons to invest in Dubarry…
1. A Long History of Shoe Making
Dubarry has been manufacturing footwear since 1937, showcasing the skills of local craftspeople and being inspired by the landscape of Ireland. Their collection of boots and shoes was designed for use around water, leading to durable and practical qualities which have remained at the forefront of production. The rich history of this brand means they definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to footwear. When you buy a pair of Dubarry boots, you can be sure that you’re getting the very best. You can find out more in our blog celebrating Dubarry heritage.
2. GORE-TEX Technology
GORE-TEX is a four layer waterproof and breathable system. The first layer (closest to the inside of your boot) wicks away internal moisture from your feet to ensure they are warm and dry. The second layer traps air to retain heat, while the third and most important layer is the waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane. This membrane is unique as perspiration can penetrate it to wick moisture away from the inside of the boot, but water cannot penetrate the membrane, meaning you are always kept dry. The final layer is a protective textile which prevents any damage to the lower layers.
When paired with a simple pair of woollen socks, this membrane will guarantee warm, dry feet even on exceptionally cold, wet days. GORE-TEX features in most Dubarry boots, with the iconic Dubarry Galway boots as a leading example.
3. High Quality Leathers
Crafted from full grain leather, Dubarry boots have a rugged texture for added durability. This type of leather results in a rustic appearance which is perfect for country boots. You can read more about the different types of leather in our Leather Buying and Care Guide.
4. Injection Moulded Soles
An injection moulded sole is a sole unit that uses no glue to connect the layers together. Instead, it is pressed as one piece to ensure a robust tread and fantastic support, resulting in a deep tread for effective mud release and grip of trickier terrains. Not all Dubarry boots feature this kind of sole unit; for more formal styles such as the Women’s Dubarry Bray Chelsea Boots, a leather and rubber mix is used. This offers a lighter base and suppleness needed for smoother surfaces.
5. 12 Month Guarantee
Every single Dubarry boot is backed by a 12-month guarantee.
“At Dubarry we take great care and pride in designing and crafting all our products. We use only the best raw materials, manufactured to the highest standards. It is our objective that every product should be fit for purpose.
All products are guaranteed against defects in materials, and workmanship, for one year from the date of purchase. Your statutory rights are not affected. Normal wear and tear, or accidental damage to the item, are not covered under warranty.
In the event that a Dubarry product does not match up to our standards, within the warranty period, please return it, along with proof of purchase, to the retailer from where it was purchased.
It will be returned to us for repair, or replacement if repair is not possible. Please note that failure to follow our care guidelines will result in the goods not being covered by warranty.“
Dubarry Warranty Claims
It’s always nice to have a little peace of mind when making a large purchase, so this warranty is really valuable. Of course, improper care is not covered, but that’s okay because Dubarry boots are…
6. …Easy to Clean and Care For!
Dubarry want your boots to last, simple as that. There’s no better advert than a pair of boots that are still going strong years after purchase, so they offer customers everything from boot trees for reduction of wrinkling to leather creams to encourage flexibility in the leather. If you wear your boots for yard or agricultural work, be sure to drench them in tap water after contact with manure or ammonia based substances, in order to prolong the life of the leather. After this, you can use the Dubarry Footwear Cleaner and Dubarry Leather Cream to keep your boots looking in great shape.
7. Perfect for City or Country
Some Dubarry boots are more suited for town than country, although that GORE-TEX membrane comes in handy no matter where you are when the rain falls! For example, the Strokestown Boots are great for comfortable everyday wear, yet will still look gorgeous with your favourite country outfit. For a tall boot, we love the Glanmire Boots with their laced back for a fashionable and adjustable touch.
8. Slim and Wide Fit Options
Country boots that are suitable for all calf widths?! We never thought we’d see the day. Yet Dubarry have adapted their famous Galway Boots to create Wide Fit and Slim Fit versions, making the brand’s favourite unisex offering even more inclusive. Many of their boots also boast adjustable features such as straps and stretch panels to allow for greater comfort and personalisation.
9. Exceptional Details
Dubarry boots are packed with intricate details to make them stand out from the crowd, in terms of both comfort and style. Pull tabs are included on most Dubarry boots to assist with easy entry, enhanced by other features such as the elasticated heel panel on the Dunmore Boots. You will also find tongue gussets on some of the shorter boots to ensure waterproofing, while delicate stitching pairs with subtle Dubarry branding to highlight their attention to detail. It is these fine details which make Dubarry boots worth every penny.
10. Built to Last
Search any forum, ask any owner, and read any review – Dubarry boots will last for years with proper care. They even offer a repair and resoling service, which means these boots really are made for walking!
