Welcome to How To Tuesdays: sometime serious, sometimes full of fun, How To Tuesday is a monthly feature full of hints and tricks for some of life’s little problems. This month, we’re taking a magnifying glass to the fine art of last minute Christmas shopping. If the month of December sends you into a constant state of panic, then be sure to read on to hear our tired and tested tips for getting it right, first time at the very last minute!
Step 1: Stop, Look and Listen
The main reason many of us leave gift buying so late is because we’re simply out of ideas of what to buy our nearest and dearest, which is why our number one tip is taken right from our friends the Green Cross Code – stop, look, and listen!
STOP panicking about what to get them and…
LOOK out for clues for something they’d really appreciate this Christmas. Maybe their wallet is looking a little worse for wear, or they’re still carrying a laptop bag and a backpack on the commute – these little clues are simple to spot and simple to find a solution to! If you’re not that observant, then we move onto step two…
LISTEN to whatever they’re talking about! Are they moaning about getting wet feet while walking the dog? Or maybe they want to do up their garden once the weather brightens up? Sounds to us like they need a new pair of wellington boots…
Step 2: Time is of the essence!
Once you’ve decided what to buy, it’s time to focus on getting your hands on it before it’s too late! If there’s still time to shop online, be sure to check final posting dates, as these often change closer to the big day, and keep in mind that Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday this year, so next day delivery may not be an option for many retailers!
If you’re heading into store, then don’t forget to take a list – wandering around aimlessly having forgotten what gift you’re buying for which family member is never fun. We also recommended you seek out a shop assistant; not only can these helpful little elves find an item within a blink of an eye, but they know which styles are the most popular, and which will be the best fit with very little information from you – stress free shopping at it’s very best!
Step 3: December 24th, really?!
If you simply must leave it to the last minute, and the above options are out of the question, then there really is only one thing for it – a gift card! That way, they can do the choosing, and you can sit back, relax and enjoy a mince pie. Because that’s what Christmas is all about, isn’t it?
