How To Look After Your R.M. Williams Leather Boots!
So, you’ve treated yourself to a new pair of R.M. Williams! An investment, not a purchase, your new boots have undergone a time-honoured process carried out by highly skilled artisans using the finest of leathers and components. Designed to stand the test of time and serving as reliable companions on all of life’s journeys, it is imperative to correctly care for your R.M. Williams boots so that you can enjoy them for many years to come! After all, “if you take care of your R.M’s, they’ll take care of you”.
Remember! There are different care routines for different types of leather. This blog is a guide for yearling leather.
1. Everyday Boot Care
Wearing
When pulling on your new boots, make sure you use the two ‘tugs’ to assist you. This will ensure the strain is spread over the tugs and the elastic. Always remove your boots with your hand placed at the back of the heel, do not use your other foot to pull off your boots!
Cleaning and Drying
Using a damp cloth, remove all mud and dirt from your boots and allow them to dry fully! If your boots become damp or saturated with water, allow them to dry naturally never using direct or forced heat as this will harm the leather upper as well as the sole.
Storing
When you are not wearing your boots, they can be stored using shoe trees which are great for keeping your boots in shape, especially if they have become saturated with water. Shoe trees will allow your boots to dry without distortion.
2. How To Condition Your Boots
Here we have Pat Macri, a care expert and R.M. Williams craftsman based in the Adelaide, South Australia workshop showing us how he conditions a pair of their Craftsman Yearling Leather Boots!
Increase the lifespan of your leather boots with the appropriate care products, this will prevent the leather from drying out and cracking over time. However, leather does need to breathe so be careful not to over condition! As a guide, R.M. Williams recommend cleaning your boots with a damp cloth every week and to condition every six weeks.
3. How To Polish Your Boots
As Pat Macri says “get that perfect shine every time” by following this simple yet essential polishing technique!
Maintain the colour of your R.M. Williams Chelsea boots and remove scuffs by applying the stockman’s boot polish with a double sided brush. Free of alcohols and chemicals, this care product is designed to use regularly and will ensure that your boots possess a smart finish!
With every wear, your pair is branded with personality. Even the smallest scuff has a story worth telling…
