A Barbour waxed jacket is made to last, to give you the enjoyment of tackling the great outdoors in your favourite jacket for longer. Crafted from waxed cotton, these jackets are renowned for their durability and weather resistant properties. Not only do they improve with age, they are renewable and sustainable with a legendary reputation for longevity.
Over time, when wearing your beloved wax jacket areas such as the shoulders, seams or pockets may require a little TLC – which is why we offer a re-waxing service for your mid-heavy weight jackets at our selected stores*! Re-waxing consists of reapplying a wax coating over the jacket to ensure it remains resilient and weather resistant, so you know you can continue to rely on your jacket for the very best protection.
You can also re-wax your treasured waxed jacket yourself using our Barbour Thornproof Wax Dressing. Watch this video below to find out how!
If you’re a regular user of your traditional mid-heavy weights, we recommend that you get your jacket re-waxed every 1-2 years!
4oz Lightweight Collection
Wax jackets from the 4oz Lightweight Collections weigh 30% less than Barbour’s traditional heavyweight waxes. The wonderful thing about the 4oz Lightweight jackets isn’t just about the function and style, it is that the jackets are so light that they can be easily packed into a bag or worn out on adventures without being too heavy. They are great to wear during the spring and summer months, and still retain all of the benefits of the traditional waxed cotton garments you already know and love.
If your jacket of choice is a 4oz lightweight, it is recommended to get your jacket re-waxed every 5-6 years!
Dry Wax Barbour jackets have a higher percentage of beeswax within the fabric, resulting in the jacket being highly water resistant. As well as great practicality, the Dry Wax jackets age promptly and beautifully, boasting a desirable vintage look.
Similar to the 4oz Lightweight Collection, the Dry Wax jackets and accessories can be re-waxed from the comfort of your own home using the Barbour Dry Wax Bar, watch the video below to learn how!
Depending on how fondly you wear your Dry Wax, these jackets only have to be re-waxed every 6-10 years!
- A ‘Classic’ Barbour jacket is made from sylkoil wax – an “unshorn” wax where the cotton comes straight from the loom while it is slightly fluffy and is then dyed and waxed. These ‘Classics’ boast more of a matte finish.
- It takes 36 people to create just one Barbour waxed jacket!
- NEVER put your waxed jacket in the washing machine, as this will remove the wax coating permanently meaning the jacket cannot be re-waxed.
- Barbour’s renowned re-waxing service lovingly repairs, reproofs and returns approximately 40,000 Barbour jackets globally to their former glory every year!
