Now Stocking: Dryrobe Changing Robes & Towels!

Dryrobe specialises in producing innovative outdoor changing robes designed to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable in various weather conditions. The brand has gained popularity across various outdoor activities such as swimming, triathlons, camping, and general outdoor adventuring.

Dryrobe began in 2010, when surfer Gideon Bright created an entirely new product and category of clothing – the changing robe. The idea was based on a waterproof robe his mother created to keep him warm while he surfed around the Atlantic coast. Bright reinvented this design using high quality materials, quickly becoming popular with fellow surfers as they changed in and out of wetsuits.

The brand continues to develop new products which will assist sports and leisure lovers when they need them most. However, the original Dryrobe will always be their hero product. Read on to find out why this product was so revolutionary!

1. What is a Dryrobe?

The original Dryrobe Advance Long Sleeve Changing Robe is designed to create a space that acts as your own private outdoor changing room. The robe is oversized, so gives you plenty of room for ease of movement. This large size also means the robe can be left on over clothing. The outer shell is waterproof and windproof to protect you from the elements. Meanwhile, the unique fleece lining is super warm, maintaining your core body temperature as you dry. This lining also wicks moisture away to help you dry faster. Finally, the fleece is incredibly fast drying itself, so you can use the robe multiple times without it feeling wet or cold.

Other features of the Advance Robe include a hood, tailored sleeves with wrist fasteners, and a full length two-way zip. These combine to further protect you from cold and wet weather. You will also find fleece-lined external pockets and two internal pockets, including a waterproof one to store your phone in.

2. How Waterproof Are Dryrobes?

Dryrobes are waterproof up to 10,000mm, which translates to a very high level of protection. The seams are also heat sealed to avoid water creeping in through any weak spots. On top of this, the material is finished with a plant-based PFC-free solution which repels water and causes it to bead rather than soak into the fabric.

The interior fabric is not waterproof; however, the fleece lining features fast drying back2skin technology, drawing water away from your skin and into the fabric. This moisture leaves the garment quickly, leaving both the Dryrobe and the wearer dry. As a result, the robe is also incredibly breathable.

3. Can You Wear a Dryrobe as a Coat?

While it wasn’t the original intended function, we’re increasingly seeing people wearing Dryrobes out and about at the shops or on country walks. And why shouldn’t you use a long sleeve waterproof, windproof, and insulating outdoor product as a casual coat? It has all the crucial features of a classic waterproof jacket, combined with full length protection and a quirky style. These robes are highly versatile, and you can put them to use in almost any environment.

4. Other Benefits of a Dryrobe

Even though Dryrobes will keep you warm and cosy with their thick blanket-like appearance, their construction is actually very lightweight. And, despite their size, the robes will fold down into a small and manageable package. These features result in the changing robes being very easy to transport, especially if packed into the Dryrobe Compression Travel Bag.

You can also be sure that your changing robe has not had a negative impact on the environment, as the Advance robes are now made from 100% recycled materials.

5. How Do You Wash and Look After a Dryrobe?

In an ideal world, you wouldn’t machine wash your changing robe at all, as it risks damaging the waterproof outer fabric. Try to wipe off any dirt with a damp cloth first, or wash by hand in cold water. However, if you absolutely must wash your robe, make sure to turn it inside out and use a very gentle wash setting at a maximum of 30 degrees. Don’t iron or tumble dry your Dryrobe, and allow it to dry flat or hanging up at room temperature.

If after many years of use you feel that the waterproof material could use a refresh, you can use a waterproofing product to revitalise the outer coating. Dryrobe recommends the Nikwax Tech Wash and TX Direct Kit for best results.

So, Are Dryrobes Worth It?

Dryrobe is a popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts and athletes looking for a convenient and effective way to stay warm and comfortable before and after their activities. They have even been supplying kit for Team GB athletes since 2016, which to us is a testament to the quality of their products. The brand continues to innovate and enhance their designs, including the use of sustainable practices and materials. Products are proven to be long lasting and high quality, and so we are proud to add this groundbreaking brand to the Outdoor and Country collection.
