Employees Raise Money For a Charity That’s Close to Their Hearts
Last weekend, a group of nine dedicated Outdoor & Country employees climbed to the summit of Ben Nevis after five months of fund-raising and preparation, earning over £6,000 for Cancer Research UK in the process. It was the first time that most of the team had taken on a challenge this size, and there were some nerves before our hikers began the seven hour journey to the town of Fort William, Scotland at the base of the UK’s largest mountain.
Back in May, the group of dedicated employees decided that they would like to do something to help Cancer Research continue to carry out the life saving work that they do. They came to this decision simply because each one of them had been affected by the disease through friends or family.
As the team set off on a beautifully clear October morning, they were met by one of the steeper paths going up from the base of the mountain, causing some worry that the climb would be harder than they had initially thought. Thankfully, as the group made their way to the top, they began to find it easier as they got into the swing of it. It took four hours to reach the summit, and once at the top they took some time out to take photos and have something to eat before they began to make their way back to the base of the mountain.
Going Up Wasn’t the Hardest Part
Surprisingly, it wasn’t the upward climb that the group found to be the hardest part of the day, coming back down proved to be a tall order as the hours of walking started to take its toll on the team’s legs and feet.
Despite some tired legs and blisters, everyone came through it with a smile on their face, and the entire group had made it back to base camp. After 5 months of preparation and fund-raising, the team can now relax having successfully climbed the UK’s largest mountain. The group was helped along by the Outdoor & Country website as £1 from every order placed over the weekend of the climb was added to the amount raised.
