Tell us your name and a little something about yourself?
Hi! I’m Neil and I’m the store manager here in our Knutsford store, I live in nearby Wilmslow with my partner. I am a mad keen gardener and I also run quite a bit (just not to work!).
How long have you been working for Outdoor and Country?
Our store is ten years old, and I became store manager here when it first opened after working in our Blackbrook Barbour store for two years. I’ve had assistant manager Nicky by my side for almost all of that time, as she has been with us for nine years now.
Who else might we meet in your store?
My assistant manager is Nicky, another keen gardener who’s lived in Knutsford for over 30 years, and you’ll also have the pleasure of meeting our two retail assistants Laura and Rosie.
What’s your favourite thing about working in our Knutsford store?
As a Knutsford resident, Nicky will tell you it’s all about location as she can walk to work and enjoy the beautiful scenery and historic architecture we have here. For both of us, we just love working with the team as we’re all close having worked together for so long. Plus, Barbour is such a great product, it’s a joy to sell to our lovely customers!

Where can we find your store?
You can find us nestled between a chemist and a stationery store on Princess Street in the heart of the town. We take a great deal of pride in our store, so it always looks great inside and out! Knutsford is a great place for a shopping trip as we have a great range of independent stores, bars and restaurants. There’s parking just nearby if you’re coming from further afield!
Do you have a favourite item in store?
I love the different Barbour collections we get in store, especially the Steve McQueen collection. As far as individual products go, I know Nicky loves the men’s Barbour Corbridge Jacket: it’s stylish, practical, and a flattering fit. It sells itself!

Do you have any answers for questions customers often ask you?
We get a lot of questions about cleaning and caring for Barbour Wax Jackets, so we tell our customers to sponge clean with tepid water only. This is really important as detergents and machines washing will damage the jacket! When they’re looking a little worse for wear, we can send them off for reproofing which costs between £36-£95 depending on the jacket and the work that needs doing!
Finally, who makes the best tea?
Nicky certainly makes the best tea, but when we need more a boost, we call on Laura to make the coffees!
