About Tentree and their mission

Tentree motivate and encourage environmental stewardship through earth-first apparel. Tentree is rooted in the belief that we have a responsibility to protect and preserve the world we live in. Made from sustainable materials that is inclusive to all body types, Tentree clothing is accessible and affordable yet doesn’t lack on quality. These products are sustainably designed for function as well as making you feel fashionable and confident.

As environmentalists Tentree’s mission is to guide you on your journey and empower you to do your best when it comes to the environment. You don’t have to be a hardcore environmentalist to make a difference. It’s the little things, like riding your bike to work, using your reusable shopping bags, or buying a Tentree item so that ten trees are planted – they all add up. Especially when millions of other people start doing them too.

Oh, that’s why they are called Tentree…

For every Tentree item that you buy, they will plant ten trees.

By 2030, Tentree’s vision is to plant 1 billion trees by 2030, which will drastically reduce climate change. They partner with many charitable organisations across the world and have already planted over 30 million trees and rehabilitated natural ecosystems in over 8 countries!

Every piece of apparel comes with a unique tag, each with its own tree code, specific to your ten trees. Once your tree code is registered you can track your trees and see where they will be planted and the more codes you register, the more information you are given about your trees and their impact.

Sustainability Stats

The fashion and textile industry are considered one of the top polluters, and one of the heaviest natural resources consumers in the world. The industry are responsible for producing a staggering 20% of the world’s water pollution while creating more greenhouse gas emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. An estimated 8,000 synthetic chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles, which is why Tentree have committed to finding and sourcing the most sustainable fibres and materials available.

TENCEL™ – Soft, Lightweight, Breathable

Tentree proudly feature this wood pulp fibre throughout their seasonal collections, including their signature t-shirts, and lightweight garments.

TENCEL™ is produced in an entirely “closed-loop” process, meaning its solvents are captured and reused, and no contaminants are released into the environment.

All Tencel materials are fsc certified, ensuring the trees are responsibly managed and meet environmental and social standards.

Tencel’s wood and pulp originates from natural forests and sustainably managed plantations. By ensuring every step of production is environmentally sound, Tencel fibres are safe to wear and can ultimately revert to nature.

Recycled Polyester – Comfortable, Long-lasting, Versatile

Recycled Polyester takes discarded “single-use” plastics from landfills and gives them new use in your wardrobe. Durable and comfortable, recycled polyester fibres produce some of the most comfortable materials such as fleece sweaters and hoodies.

Plastic is a smooth, shiny, colourful, and convenient material, that is also a toxic nuisance to our environment. Only 9% of the world’s plastic has been recycled, so we are producing way more plastic than we are recycling.

By diverting plastic bottles from landfills, we can keep toxic chemicals from contaminating our natural resources and reduce our dependence on petroleum-based products.

Organic Cotton – Natural, Ultra-Comfortable, Soft

Organic cotton is made sustainably and responsibly, so the planet feels just as good as you do while wearing it. Due to unsustainable methods, conventional cotton farmers are constantly exposed to dangerous chemicals and toxins daily.

Conventional cotton production uses up to 16% of the world’s insecticides, and 7% of herbicides. These chemicals are then washed out of soils, polluting rivers, and damaging the environment.

Organic cotton is grown with minimal use of harsh chemicals, ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for farmers and their families.

Organic cotton clothing is also safer to wear for those with more sensitive skin.

Hemp – Durable, Natural, Breathable

Soil helps maintain food security, and healthy soil can combat climate change while hosting a quarter of our planet’s biodiversity. But it is depleting fast. At the current rate, the world’s healthy soil will be gone in 60 years. By using hemp in fabrics and blends, we are actively being kinder to our soil and ultimately, kinder to ourselves.

Compared to conventional cotton, hemp can be grown and harvested using far less land and water while producing more fibres per acreage.

Hemp is cultivated without any GMOs. When farmed cleanly, safely, and organically, hemp also naturally aerates the soil and replenishes nutrients back into the environment.
