It\u2019s not just dedication to outstanding quality at the heart of the Barbour International Brand, but a passion that dates back to 1928, when keen motorcyclist Duncan Barbour joined the family business. His passion for motorcycling gave him a unique insight into exactly what the riders would require from a motorcycling suit, and used this knowledge to introduce the hugely popular International Suit in 1936. This one off design- the Ursula jacket and trousers- soon became standard issue for submariners during the second world war.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re often asked about the distinctive diagonal left chest pocket; some think it\u2019s just a quirky design feature with no real use, others are convinced it\u2019s a fault! In fact, the pocket has been ergonomically designed on the slat to allow riders easy access to maps and time trial cards. As for the logo, with the iconic black and gold design, this was inspired by the traditional colours of the Vincent Owners Club, who adopted the International Jacket as their official uniform. Most notably however, the jackets were picked up by Steve McQueen and the US team before the ISDT in East Germany.
