Rated 5 out of 5 by Maia910 from Great pair of boots These are very well made leather boots, still made with a traditional weft sole rather than glue nonsense. This means they are build to last. Thanks to the vegetable dye they use, each pair is slightly unique in appearance and this only gets better with age. On Penelope Chilver's website, while telling you how to care for them properly, they also tell you not to get too precious about them either. These boots with the right amount of care will last decades, so don't sweat the small stuff, let them be country boots, run in the mud or down a river in them, they will survive and dare I say, look better for it. Don't buy these as a fashion statement or just for 'special occasions' these boots deserve to be worn proudly for the function they were made for and simply look gorgeous doing it. I'd definitely recommend getting the leather balm Outdoor and Country suggest, as it is a great way to top up the leather each year. One of the best parts about these boots is the tapered ankle, it means it comes in a lot more at the back than a standard wellie does, giving you a much more feminine figure than your standard wellie. A note - make sure you move the tassel out of the way to do up the buckle else it can be a right faff and it won't look right. Like all leather boots and shoes - they do need breaking in but it is worth it because they will then be boots that fit you perfectly (just expect a few blisters in those first few outings). As they break in, they become very comfortable, supportive and delightful to wear compared to other tall boots. They do have a bit of weight to them - something to bear in mind if you don't have boots with heavy soles already. They are also better worn with boot socks - Penelope Chilvers do several designed for the boot, or any shooting sock or boot sock would work fine I imagine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lorna 55 from Wonderful well made boots For quality I would give these boots five stars, but I’ve noticed, with a lot of quality footwear the left boot is a fraction smaller than the right. My left foot is slightly bigger so I have difficulty getting this left boot on and off. It’s a case of once on, one thin sock on my left foot. A thicker on on my right

I have the calf 40 cm and size 39. It is to much slim this boot?
Thanks for your question and interest in our products. We can confirm the size 39 (EU) has an approximate 38cm calf measurement so you may find this is too slim fitting.
