Dubarry and Sustainability | Buy Better, Last Longer
We all know how important it is to limit our impact on the environment and everything in it. Countryside fashion owes its existence to the natural world around us, so it’s vital that we do our best to protect it. Dubarry of Ireland is a brand that prides itself on products that are timeless and versatile, avoiding the world of fast fashion and unsustainable trends. When looked after with the correct care accessories, Dubarry products can be re-worn year after year.
Further to this, the materials and processes used in the creation of Dubarry clothes and footwear are constantly being reviewed in order to improve environmental performance, reduce waste, and increase the product lifespan.
Wool – Sustainable, Natural & Versatile
Wool is a naturally sustainable and environmentally friendly fibre, as sheep bred for wool form part of the natural carbon cycle. It is also renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable, ticking all the sustainability boxes. However, not only does wool have minimum impact on the environment, it’s also a great fabric for clothing. It is natural and breathable with insulating properties, making it perfect for outerwear. Wool is a key component in the creation of the iconic Dubarry tweed jackets.
Dubarry’s knitwear products feature a blend of 40% wool, 35% nylon, and 25% rayon yarn. Rayon enhances the eco-friendly properties of wool as it is a man-made fibre produced from wood pulp, making it sustainable and fully biodegradable. Dubarry uses nylon to improve durability and maintain the appearance of a product after long term use, resulting in clothing that can last for years.
Dubarry knitwear is certified under the Responsible Wool Standard. This reflects that every step of the supply chain complies with the requirements for animal welfare and land management. Furthermore, 100% of the waste from wool mills that Dubarry use is recycled.
Resource Friendly Materials
In addition to wool, Dubarry clothing features a whole host of sustainable materials.
Waxed Cotton
The cottons for Dubarry waxed jackets are sustainably sourced from organisations with environmental responsibility at the forefront of their development. Wax is heated prior to application and then cooled down for storage, eliminating any waste. This therefore results in an almost non-existent impact on the environment.

Tencel Modal
Tencel Modal is composed of sustainably managed beech wood pulp, an entirely natural material. As a result, the fibres are biodegradable and compostable, returning back to nature once they have been disposed of. Furthermore, the process for creating this fibre is self-sufficient in energy, and the super soft touch of the fabric is long-lasting even after multiple washes.
Dubarry products with Tencel Modal:
Recycled Polyester
Dubarry commits to using 100% recycled polyester wherever possible. Made from recycled plastics, this material retains the same high quality while having the added benefit of a reduced carbon footprint.
Dubarry products with recycled polyester:
PrimaLoft
PrimaLoft filling is what makes Dubarry coats and jackets stand out from the market. It provides an enhanced level of insulation without adding too much weight. PrimaLoft is entrenched in environmental standard certifications, including Bluesign and STANDARD 100 by OEKP-TEX. Bluesign aims to remove harmful substances from each step of production processes, while STANDARD 100 signifies that every element of the product itself has been checked for anything that may be harmful.

Performance Footwear
Dubarry boots have a strong reputation for quality and durability. It’s no secret that we love the iconic country boots; check out our ten reasons to invest in Dubarry boots.
Gore-Tex is one of the key properties that makes the Galway Boots and others so impressive. It is waterproof and breathable, keeping your feet warm and dry.
However, what makes Gore-Tex an even more valuable element is its sustainability standard. As with PrimaLoft, it is certified by Bluesign and STANDARD 100, so we know that there are no harmful processes or materials involved. To add to this, the coating is PFC free, meaning it is free from any environmental concern. Gore-Tex continues to improve its environmental footprint whilst retaining the performance of its products. Dubarry country boots are a prime example of where this has been achieved.
Fashion production and consumption has reached unsustainable levels, so we’re happy to support a brand that is so keen on making a difference. Low impact production processes combined with long lasting materials from a sustainable background is a winning formula that we hope will soon become the standard. Dubarry encourages others to reduce their footprint wherever possible, in order to help preserve our wonderful natural world for generations to come.
