How to Re-Wax your Barbour wax jacket
Barbour waxed jackets are made to last. If looked after, your wax jacket will provide you with many years of faithful service. Here’s our handy guide on how to re-wax your Barbour wax jacket, to ensure it retains its renowned durability and weather-resistant properties.
1. Clean your jacket…
To clean your Barbour wax coat, gently wipe down the exterior with a sponge and cold water. It’s crucial to avoid hot water and any type of soap. Never attempt to wash the jacket in a washing machine, as this will irreversibly strip away the wax coating, rendering the jacket unable to be re-waxed.
2. Soften the wax…
Begin by preparing a container of hot water. Take your tin of Barbour Wax Thornproof dressing, remove the lid, and stand the tin of dressing in the container of hot water.
Ensure the water is hot enough to soften the wax. It should take approximately 20 minutes to melt the wax into a liquid consistency.

3. Re-Wax your jacket…
Using an old cloth or sponge, work the melted wax well into the jacket paying particular attention to seams, creases and dry patches. Wipe off any excess wax. Throughout the process, keep the wax tin immersed in hot water to maintain its softened state. If the wax starts to solidify, replenish the container with more hot water as needed. Ensure you keep the wax away from the corduroy collar, the inside of the jacket and inside of the pockets.

4. Dry your jacket..

For an extra smooth finish, use a hair dryer to blow over the jacket. This helps to even out the spread of wax, ensuring a uniform coating.
After re-waxing the jacket, hang it up to dry. Let it dry overnight in a warm area, away from other garments.

Keep in mind that the jacket may release excess wax for a brief period, so take care to avoid contact with leather or upholstery.
