On a rainy day in Cherbourg, France, Mr Claude Chamot was tired of listening to his customers (farmers, hunters and fisherman) complain about their uncomfortable and non-protective boots...so he decided to do something about it. He set about creating an innovative wellington boot - a type that would withstand the harsh elements and rigours of the countryside and the ocean life. He began by creating prototypes crafted from natural rubber and asked those same customers to test them. The results were mind-blowing! Nobody could believe how incredibly durable, comfortable and waterproof the boots were; they loved them, and this was the start of their incredible story. Fast forward to today, and Le Chameau are world renowned for being the pioneers of vulcanising rubber in order to create protective boots that are unsurpassable. Having refined and re-designed their styles many times, they are now at a point where their reputation is as solid as their soles, with people all over the world purchasing pairs of wellington boots every day.
