A Review of the Dubarry Galway Boots
Working in the marketing department at Outdoor and Country sometimes ends up being a blessing and a curse. Naturally, writing about amazing products can easily lead you to fall in love with them yourself. So, after looking longingly at the Dubarry Galway Boots for months, I finally caved and decided to purchase a pair. There’s no denying that these boots come with a fairly high price tag, so I was anxious to find out whether they would live up to their reputation and be worth the investment. (Spoiler: Dubarry is always worth it!)
Having not previously owned any country footwear, I was unsure whether the Galways would suit my simple dress sense. However, as soon as I tried them on in our Trentham store, I knew they’d be complimentary to most of my casual clothing. Even for a fairly short person, the knee high length of the boots is flattering. I found the ExtraFit size option most comfortable and chose to buy the iconic walnut colour.
Along with the boots, I purchased some Dubarry Long Boot Socks in my favourite olive colour. I also decided that a protective Dubarry Boot Bag would be a good idea, as I would soon be bringing a puppy into my home!
Galway Boots: All Day Comfort
For my first outing with the new boots, I wisely decided not to go very far. The premium leather is initially quite stiff, and the weight of the boots was something entirely new to me. I was worried I’d made the wrong decision! However, after only a couple more sessions of wearing in the boots, the leather softened incredibly quickly. After this, the legendary comfort of Dubarry boots was obvious and very satisfying. I can now happily wear the boots for a full day in the office, or while getting my step count up at an event such as The Game Fair, with no discomfort, aches or pains.
Galway Boots at The Game Fair
You might expect tall and heavy footwear to make your legs feel hot and uncomfortable, but this is not the case at all. The leather used in the Galway Boots is breathable, keeping you at just the right temperature. The boots are also completely waterproof, which I can personally vouch for. After all, owning a Cocker Spaniel often requires you to venture through a puddle or two!
I’ve often found it difficult to find walking shoes with decent grip, so I’m thrilled with the soles of my Galway Boots. They’re quite thick, so they cushion your feet against uneven surfaces while also preventing you from slipping. Another positive for when I’m walking through the Staffordshire countryside!
Finally, a feature that could easily be overlooked is the finger pull inside each side of the boots. Due to the lack of zip, the Galways are not the easiest boots to quickly slip on and off. Therefore the finger pulls are an essential addition that certainly make my life a lot easier!
In the end, I’m very happy that I decided to take the risk with these boots. From the touch and quality of the leather, I can tell they’re going to last for years. They’re incredibly comfortable and practical, which are probably the most important attributes when it comes to footwear. However, I also love the iconic design, which is timeless and versatile, and is what drew the boots to my attention in the first place. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to rate the Dubarry Galway Boots as 5 stars!
