Barbour Beaufort vs Classic Beaufort Jackets | What Are The Differences?
Welcome, outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of timeless British fashion! Today, we’re taking a closer look at two iconic Barbour jackets – the Barbour Beaufort Jacket and the Barbour Beaufort Classic Jacket. The two jackets may look similar at first, but look closer and you’ll spot key differences that suit different styles and preferences. If you love outdoor and country style, it’s worth knowing what sets these jackets apart—so you can pick the one that suits your look and lifestyle.
The Barbour Beaufort is one of Barbour’s most long-standing jacket styles, sitting alongside the Bedale and the Border. This trio of styles form the foundation of the Barbour waxed jacket range we see today. The Beaufort is a mid-length style, with the Bedale being shorter and the Border being longer.
Barbour Heritage
First produced back in 1983, the Barbour Beaufort Original Jacket recently celebrated 50 years in the Barbour range. The original was produced with a sage green outer and a Dress Gordon tartan lining. It also had press studs to accommodate a snap-in warm pile lining. Today’s models have the same cut as the original but feature new Barbour tartan linings and a secondary zip for adding a zip-in liner.
Originally designed for country sports, the Men’s Barbour Beaufort Jacket features a full-width rear game pocket, raglan sleeves, handwarmer pockets, bellow pockets, and drainage eyelets.
The Barbour Beaufort Wax Jacket is available in a choice of colours, Black, Sage, Bark and Navy. Each outer colour is teamed with a complimentary Barbour tartan inner and is crafted from Barbour’s 6oz waxed cotton. The Barbour Classic Beaufort Jacket comes exclusively in classic Olive and is made from sylkoil waxed cotton with a slightly brushed finish.
Both jackets share the same generous fit, designed to allow for layering and an optional liner. They are both also equipped with a detachable storm throat flap and studded corduroy collar to accommodate an detachable hood. Hoods and liners come in a range of colours, each lined with a Barbour tartan to match the different Beaufort jacket shades.
Choosing Your Barbour Beaufort Adventure
Ultimately, the choice between the Beaufort Jacket and the Beaufort Classic Jacket boils down to your taste and lifestyle.
The choice may well come down to your colour preference. Both models of jacket are hardwearing and can last a lifetime if properly cared for. You should regularly reproof your jacket with Barbour thornproof dressing. The Olive Sylkoil of the Classic Beaufort has a softer, brushed “unshorn” finish—ideal for those who prefer a more relaxed look.
Sylkoil and 6oz waxed cotton start as the same fabric but are finished differently. The standard Beaufort, in traditional 6oz waxed cotton, has a slightly shinier look and is often favoured by traditionalists seeking a jacket closest to the original.
The Barbour Beaufort Men’s Wax Jacket and Beaufort Classic Jacket are two sides of the same coin—each reflecting Barbour’s rich heritage in a jacket that suits both your style and lifestyle. Whether you’re strolling cobbled streets or exploring the countryside, your Barbour offers timeless protection with unmistakable style.
